Depression, Low Mood & Feeling Stuck

Depression can affect much more than mood. You may feel disconnected, depleted or unable to find pleasure in things that once mattered to you. You may struggle with motivation, self-worth or a sense of hope about the future.

Rather than seeing depression as something to fear or overcome, it can be helpful to be curious about what it may be communicating. Depression can involve a loss of connection; with others, with meaning and purpose, with a sense of belonging, or with a deeper connection to our essential self: our needs, desires, vitality and sense of what matters to us.

Sometimes, what we carry extends beyond our individual experience. We are shaped by the emotional landscape we inherit and live within, including intergenerational trauma, loss, adversity and wider collective experiences. These influences can shape us in ways we may not fully comprehend, revealing how deeply the world we live in and the world we inherit, can become part of our inner experience.

When We Feel Stuck

Feeling stuck can sometimes reflect an inner conflict between different parts of ourselves. One part may want to move forward, while another feels fearful, uncertain or not yet ready for change. Rather than trying to silence the part that holds us back, it can be helpful to understand what it is trying to protect us from.

With greater awareness and compassion for these different parts, the internal conflict can begin to soften, creating space to move forward in a way that feels more true to who we are.
